Stretch or Do Yoga and Tai Chi
Another way to increase mobility is by stretching regularly. There are a variety of stretches that you can do gently right in the comfort of your own home. If you want to go a step further and not only stretch, but also maintain and increase your body’s strength, you can try a yoga class. Avoid classes that are strenuous if you aren’t ready for them, and stick with gentler classes instead that focus on establishing safe movements that correspond with the breath. Start by sitting in a chair and then extend both of your arms in front of you. Next, raise both hands above the head. Hold your hands in a prayer position, pushing the palms together and pointing the thumbs behind you. Slowly lower both hands, maintaining the prayer position with the hands, and bring them to the front of the chest. Repeat this motion several times to stretch the shoulder muscles and joints.
Go Walking or Ride a Stationary Bike
Again, maintaining an active lifestyle is very important if you want to improve your mobility. Sitting still will cause your body to become stiffer and less mobile. Purchase a stationary bike that you can use regularly right in the comfort of your own home. Or, if you prefer walking, go for walks regularly in your neighbourhood, or purchase a treadmill for use in your home even when the weather isn’t cooperating.
