Sleep disorders: open your eyes and solve it

Rory Herts
Sleeping illnesses are one of those severely dangerous yet highly underrated health conditions. Statistics express that almost 50 million Americans develop one kind of sleep sickness or another, and several of those sick are not doing anything about it. Sleep problems cause sleeping deprivation, and sleep deprivation develops stress as well as physical, even mental health risks. A couple of the most common sleeping problems are insomnia, sleep apnea, as well as hypersomnia.

Insomnia is the most common; this occurs to approximately anyone at a single point in our lives. It may be transient (temporary), on and off (recurrent), as well as chronic (long-term). It is the incapability to begin and/or maintain sleep during sleeping time. It can be caused by a number of factors such as emotions, lifestyle, and environmental, or it could also be because of an underlying disease method.

Tips to cure insomnia are change in lifestyle habits as in smoking, drinking liquor, and food binging a few minutes before sleeping, and practicing excellent sleeping practices among others. Several insomnia sufferers employ the use of sleeping aids, even without a prescription, in spite of understanding the harmful side effects of sleeping pills when it is used excessively or incorrectly.

Sleep apnea is more typical than we think. So what is sleep apnea? It is a sleeping problem characterized by snoring. Snoring is the sound produced by air going through a blocked airway. Aside from snoring, symptoms of sleep apnea include short episodes of breathing stopping during sleep, inadequate focus, memory loss, irritability, and other symptoms of lack of sleep. This frequently goes undiagnosed, commonly dismissing snoring as normal, and attributing the signs of sleep deprivation on something else.

The efficiency of sleep apnea treatments relies on the type of apnea diagnosed. It may be obstructive, in which case surgical repair or removal of what's causing the obstruction is most effective; and central sleep apnea wherein there is a problem of synchronization between the breathing center of the brain as well as the muscles of the respiratory, which is best treated with CPAP therapy making use of a CPAP equipment, CPAP masks or called nasal pillows, and a very important tool, CPAP humidifiers.

Idiopathic hypersomnia, or excessive daytime sleepiness, is caused by a variety of factors. It is frequently characterized by another sleeping sickness such as insomnia and sleep apnea or by jet lag or shifting of work sleep sickness. This is quite similar to narcolepsy which is why, aside from curing the underlying cause, a few doctors offer Provigil to control its signs. Provigil is the common cure for narcolepsy symptoms. Still, there have been a couple of concerns regarding Provigil side effects and it is still vague whether this is safe to use on patients who aren't suffering from narcolepsy.

Most of the time, sleeping illnesses such as these aren't discovered by the individual himself but by their significant others. And there are some who merely takes sleeping medicines if they start experiencing the symptoms. Many use melatonin as a sleep aid because it claims to be a safe choice to narcotic sleeping pills. Yet like most sleep aids, there are also harmful side effects of taking melatonin when used incorrectly. The most efficient manner of treating a sleep sickness is to check on a doctor and avail of a sleep study to describe the exact sickness and be given with the correct treatment.
