Home made remedies for bad breath |
| Joan Masterson |
Bad breath, or halitosis in medical terms, can prove to be a real problem for people who suffer from it. It can cause a whole lot of social and emotional problems and lead to loss of face in society. Bad breath can take many of life's pleasures away – for example, it could lead to losing physcial contact with the one you love and can kill your experience when it comes to fine wining and dining.
Sure enough, bad breath remedies are readily available and probably all you have to do is to see your dentist for a quick solution. But if you do not have the cash or do not want to spend a lot of cash on seeing a professional for a simple problem like bad breath, then here are some home-based bad breath remedies just for you.
Regular Brushing & Flossing is a must!
Good teeth and healthy gums together make for fresh and good breath. So, one fo the first basic remedies for bad breath is to take good care of your teeth and gums – in fact, no other bad breath remedy comes even close to matching oral hygiene. You must make it a point to brush your teeth at least twice daily after meals and to floss them at night.
And, when we say brushing, we mean brushing effectively, not just going through the motions with your tootbrush for a minute or so. You must also floss your teeth before sleep to dislodge pieces of food that may be stuck in your teeth in areas where your toothbrush can not reach. These hidden food particles attract bacteria, which causes bad breath and tooth decay.
And, hey, do not forget to clean your tongue too, another harvesting place for bad-breath-causing bacteria!
Add Avocado To Your Diet
Strange but true – avocado is considered as one of the most effective bad breath remedies. Eating avo's can help prevent bad breath because it contains a fatty alcohol, avocadene, which has been proven to be a bacteria fighter and helps get rid of the bad bacteria that grows in your mouth. Avocado is easily available at all grocery stores. A word of caution - although it is a great bad breath remedy, you should not consume it in excess to the fact that avo's are high in fat.
Protein Reduction Plan
Proteins are regarded as the usual culprits when it comes to finding the causes of bad breath. So, one quick-fix bad breath remedy would be to reduce your protein intake.
Following is a list of foods that you need to avoid or should consume only in moderation: meats (especially processed meats), cereals, dairy products, nuts, lentils and some vegetables.
The inference is simple: Eat less of these foods and watch your bad breath problem disappear. Your diet plays a big rol in creating or eliminating bad breath, so one should plan your diet carefully.
Drink Plenty of Water
It is simple, without water we cannot exist. If you drink enough water, water can prove to be a good bad breath remedy in simple cases of bad breath. However, if you feel that your bad breath could be due to a medical problem, then you really should consult a doctor. Rembember also: A dry mouth could lead to bad breath, so take care not to let it happen to you.
Use herbs and spices and other items normally found in the home:
Herbs and spices could be very useful in combatting bad breath. Instead of using over the counter medicines that are more often than not just masking bad breath and actually contributing to bad breath, try and chew on some herbs and spices.
Here are some herbs and spices you could try out:
A couple of sprigs of parsley
Fresh Mint Leaves
Fresh Basil Leaves
Chew on a clove or two - you would be surprised how fresh your mouth feels afterwards!
You could also drop a splash of peppermint oil on your tongue for a refreshing moutwash. Or, try a drop of tasty vanilla for a fantatistic sweet smelling breath!
In conclusion:
These are just some of the most effective home-based bad breath remedies. Try them out and see if they work for you!
