9 essential tips on how to build your own green house

Christian Baligad
Have you ever thought about the pleasure you would get from building your own greenhouse? There are numerous sizes and designs for you to choose from. By building your own greenhouse you will receive the satisfaction of tending to your own vegetables, plants, flowers, or whatever you decide to grow. A greenhouse will also provide your plants the sunlight and humidity that they need. Every time you visit your greenhouse you will have a sense of pride knowing that when each crop comes to fruition your efforts are rewarded.

By building your own small greenhouse you will save more money. Depending on your budget there are many materials and supplies at your disposal to build your dream garden. If you have the space, a larger greenhouse may be in your best interest because you can maximize the space that you have to grow more plants and vegetables.

There are many factors to consider when building a greenhouse to utilize the area you have to propagate more plants. Here are some tips and factors for you to consider when building your own greenhouse:

1. If you intend to build a large greenhouse look around and use salvaged materials to stay within your budget. To help minimize your expenses use these supplies and materials in planning and designing a low cost greenhouse. This in turn lessens your expenses for other supplies and materials you may also need.

2. You must also determine the climate in the place where you live. Your greenhouse should be appropriate for cold climate areas. This will help provide the heat and warmth needed for your plants. For warmer climates, you will need sufficient shade for your plants.

3. You also need to be sure that in designing your greenhouse that you have the proper air circulation pest control soil, ventilation, heaters for colder climates and humidity control devices. You need to create an environment that is appropriate for the types of plants you intend to grow.

4. You also need to consider the location of your greenhouse so that there is sufficient sunlight. You might consider a solar greenhouse if the area you locate it in is on the east-west part where it will be exposed to more sunlight.

5. It is vital to consider the covering for your greenhouse. Glass and fiberglass work best. Compared with plastic covers, they are more durable and do not deteriorate as quick. In essence, a greenhouse with a glass or fiberglass covering will provide mopre humidity and warmth.

6. For a more secure greenhouse, ensure that your foundation is made of concrete. For a more cost effective option, use something like railroad ties which are more easily attached to the ground. It all depends on what your budget is and how much you are willing to spend.

7. To maximize the full potential of your greenhouse, you may add benches and materials that will make it more comfortable for you when you want to relax inside of it while working in there. To make it even more comfortable for you, add devices like automatic watering systems, ventilation systems, heating systems and other automatic accessoreies that are effective in maintaining the plants.

8. To keep control of the "bad bugs" in the greenhouse, use "good bugs" to prevent and control the spread of theses pesky little creatures. Visit your local nursery or gardening supply store and check with them to determine which "good bugs" you need to prevent infestation. In the unforeseen case that you find out a plant has been infected, isolate it or even place it outside the greenhouse to prevent it from infecting the other plants.

9. When designing your greenhouse be sure to leave space to store such items as poting soil, fertilizers and other tools that are essential inside the greenhouse. To make it easier to transpant plants from one pot to another, put a tool rack near your potting area. Utilize buckets and tool holders to store other equipment when they are not in use.

By maximizing your area you can develop and grow all types of plants and vegetable in your greenhouse. For an even more enjoyable experience, get your family and friends involved too.

Have fun,
