The summer fashion trends for this year have already been decided. And, if you consider yourself a fashionista, you’ll want to be aware of them so you can start purchasing clothing and accessories that will ensure you’re fully on-trend this season. From bright colors to 80s style comebacks, kitten heels and underwear as outerwear, you’ll find plenty of options that you can take advantage of and make your own this summer.

Fuchsia

Fuchsia pink has been a huge hit on the catwalks for the spring/summer looks, with designers including Balenciaga, Topshop Unique, Valentino, and Celine all using it in their collections. Surprisingly, most designers haven’t even paired their fuchsia looks with another color. We’re seeing fuchsia dresses paired with fuchsia jackets, fuchsia skirts paired with fuchsia tees, and all manner of other combinations. If this sounds a bit too out there for you, white is a great color to match with your fuchsia outfits. It’s summery, and fuchsia is considered a summery color for people to wear.

Stripes

From school inspired stripes to sailor looking outfits, stripes are set to be big again in summer 2017. Marques Almeida and Mulberry were two designers who included a lot of stripes in their collections for the summer. However, almost all top fashion houses have included stripes in their looks in one form or another. It’s not just striped clothing you’ll find, either. You’ll start to see a lot of striped boots hit the stores in the next month or so. Don’t feel scared to match striped boots up with striped clothing – not if you want to really nail the catwalk look this summer.

Slogan Tees

The slogan tee is returning this summer, but don’t expect the designs to be similar to in the past. This year’s slogan tees will predominantly feature feminist headlines if Stella McCartney and Christian Dior’s headlines are anything to go by. Whether you want to wear a super sassy slogan tee or something more political, these look great paired with a maxi skirt and some grunge style boots. And, if you really want to add to the look, we recommend one of the 925 silver biker rings from the Bikerringshop.

Ruffles

Ruffles were a big hit in the autumn/winter collections of 2016, and they’re transitioning into the spring/summer collections as well. Designers like Dolce & Gabbana have created some great outfits that have paired floral prints with floaty, romantic sleeves. Others like Mulberry have designed outfits with floaty sleeves that are perfect for wearing in the office. Everything from dresses to shirts and tees are going to have some ruffle accessories this summer.

White Dresses

White fabrics always ooze that summer feel, and this year, we’ll be seeing a lot of white dresses hitting the high street. Rodarte and Tibi, Alberta Ferretti and Chanel all had white dresses in their spring summer collections for 2017. The majority are floaty and perfect for pairing with a bathing suit and wearing for a day to the beach.

Bralettes

Love it or hate it, the underwear as outerwear trend has really picked up steam, and many designers have taken note and focused on creating bralettes. Victoria Beckham has designed some interesting velvet bralettes while floral prints and strappy designs were also seen on the catwalks courtesy of Tory Burch and Alexander Wang respectively. Fans of Kylie Jenner have probably been hoping for bralettes to hit the stores for a while, and for one season at least, people may not look twice at you for daring to wear one.

Detailed Sleeves

This is another trend that has continued from the autumn/winter 2016 catwalks. Detailed sleeves are bigger than ever for the 2017 summer season – think oversized, bunched and ruffled and you’ll get the idea. Pretty much everything goes. The detailed sleeves for the summer will be made from lighter fabrics than we saw for the autumn/winter collections, and we’ll also see a lot of floral prints being used. That said, they’ll also be available in pretty much every color imaginable, so you’ll be able to find plenty of options to add to your wardrobe.

Sheer Fabrics

Just when you thought we might be getting a break from sheer fabrics, the spring/summer catwalk shows brought them back with a vengeance. Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry and Carven all included sheer fabrics in their collections for the summer season, and some are even designed to be worn without underwear! Whether you feel you can be that daring or not, longline tops and dresses, crochet pants, and Perspex trousers are all options you can choose from for the summer.

Kitten Heels

Almost all of the top fashion designers sent their models out wearing kitten heels for their summer collections. Dior sent out some outlandish branded heels, Celine sent out some pointed pumps, Prada’s models wore classic black slingbacks, and Chanel’s models wore two-tone. Whichever style you prefer, you’ll want to buy at least one pair of kitten heels to add to your wardrobe this year. They go great with everything from shorts and dresses to maxi skirts and long pants. They’re sure to be a wardrobe staple!

Tulle

Consider yourself a wannabe ballerina? If so, you’ll be happy to know that tulle is another trend set to be big this summer. And, it’s not just in the pale pink variety either. Designers such as Rochas, Dior and Molly Goddard all had tulle designs in their spring/summer collections, and the colors varied as much as the actual designs. This is one trend that is sure to be a joy to wear this summer, though, purely because of the light, breezy feel of the fabric. Paired with some nice beach shoes and some bright earrings, tulle could be the perfect fabric to wear on the beach this summer.
These ten trends are set to be huge this summer, so make sure to buy at least a few different outfits if you want to take full advantage of the catwalk look.
