Archaeology Lecture: Entangled at Catal |
| UCL |
Professor Ian Hodder of Stanford University will give this year's UCL Institute of Archaeology Childe Lecture on Thursday 30 November 2006 at 6pm in the Darwin Lecture Theatre.
Entitled 'Entangled at Catal: a perspective from the recent excavations', the lecture will cover the results of recent excavations at the 9000-year-old site of Catalhoyuk in central Turkey. The site is usually discussed in terms of its art, symbolism and social-economic structures, but Professor Hodder will focus on the ways in which people were entangled with objects and materials in the course of daily life. As people built walls, plastered floors and cleaned rooms, they were involved in changing relationships with things that caused social change and reaction.
This will be the inaugural lecture of an annual programme that will commemorate the eminent archaeologists who have taught at UCL over the years.
