IBM Unveils Software Migration Programs to Target HP Customer Base |

IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced new migration programs to further accelerate the momentum of clients switching from HP's Mercury software and OpenView systems management software to IBM with a 25 percent discount on select Rational and Tivoli software.
While HP has decided to focus on proprietary architectures, HP OpenView and Mercury Interactive clients are making the switch to the "freedom of choice" advantages from IBM software. Clients worldwide choosing IBM technology over HP technology include Pierce County in Washington, Flax Art, and Trident Seafood.
The new migration programs allow IBM Business Partners to extend discounts of up to 25 percent on license fees when migrating customers from Mercury software to IBM. IBM will also offer clients a 25 percent discount when they move from their HP applications to IBM.
In addition, IBM is launching other new sales incentives, workshops, training and services to help IBM Business Partners migrate clients from HP to IBM.
Today's announcement builds upon IBM migration programs against HP for its entire server and storage line. When the new Tivoli and Rational migration program is combined with these existing programs, clients can migrate their data center technologies from HP to IBM.
"Working with our Business Partners, IBM has seen thousands of clients choose IBM software over HP's high-cost and proprietary software in the past year. Today we are formalizing a program to help clients more easily and quickly move to IBM's industry-leading software offerings from Rational and Tivoli," said Al Zollar, general manager of Tivoli Software, IBM. "Drawing on 20 years of experience with customer migrations, IBM is poised to make the client transition process non-disruptive, while providing former HP clients with a wider range of equipment and tools, and a faster deployment time than HP."
IBM Business Partners Expand Migration Use

The Rational migration program is aimed at HP and Mercury clients that want to simplify their development processes, improve efficiency, manage risk and compliance, and cut costs associated with building and managing new products and applications. Under the new migration program, effective today worldwide, IBM's Business Partners can help eligible clients save up to 25 percent on license fees when migrating from Mercury, Borland and other competitive testing products to IBM Rational and Tivoli software tools.
In addition, IBM Business Partners will be able to offer customers IBM Rational Performance Tester with 100 virtual tester licenses when they purchase an IBM Rational ClearQuest and IBM Rational Functional Testing quality management solution. This promotion, which can save clients an estimated $20,000 in software license charges, runs through December 22, 2006.
BSD Group, a systems integrator in Denver, Colorado, and participant in the migration program, is already helping customers across a number of industries improve the quality of their software development and delivery.

Bugs, crashes, error messages and security holes from inadequate software continue to be a drain on productivity to the tune of $60 billion annually [2]. Four years later, poorly written software still plagues many companies and hurts business profitability. Organizations in every industry are faced with the high cost and the complex nature of developing and deploying software.
"We are now working with two very large enterprises -- one in healthcare and another in travel -- to migrate from HP products to IBM. They can't risk any downtime from software glitches. It could cost them downtime or millions of dollars. The combination of IBM Rational and Tivoli is a powerful lifesaver for them," continued Ralston.
IBM Tivoli Completes the Data Center Picture
According to IDC, the worldwide distributed systems management software market is expected to reach $10.3 billion in 2010. [3] For today's announcement of the Tivoli Migration program, clients using the following HP OpenView products are eligible for migration to IBM Tivoli software at a 25 percent discount:
-- HP OpenView Network Node Manager - migrate to Netcool/Precision for IP
Networks to bring real-time network discovery, topology and root cause
analysis for layer 2 and 3 networks.
-- HP OpenView TeMIP and HP OpenView Operations - migrate to
Netcool/OMNIbus, which offers consolidated fault monitoring for real-time
service management, and Netcool/Impact, which provides real-time access to
business and service information for event enrichment, as well as
management and custom calculation of complex performance indicators and
advanced automations.
-- HP OpenView Select Federation - migrate to Tivoli Federated Identity
Manager for a simple, loosely coupled model for managing identity and
access to resources that span companies or security domains.
-- HP OpenView Compliance Manager - migrate to Tivoli Security Compliance
Manager, which acts as an early warning system by identifying security
vulnerabilities and security policy violations for small, medium and large
businesses.
-- HP Storage Essentials - migrate to Tivoli TotalStorage Productivity
Center, which combines the assets, capacity, performance and operational
management, traditionally offered by separate Storage Resource Management,
SAN Management and Device Management applications into a single platform.
-- HP OpenView Omniback and HP OpenView Storage Data Protector - migrate
to Tivoli Storage Manager, which automates data backup and restore
functions, supports a broad range of platforms and storage devices, and
centralizes storage management operations.
As part of the initiative, IBM also introduced client resources, including the IBM Tivoli Migration Assessment which is a new packaged service offering tailored to help clients get a clear understanding of how to migrate an existing systems or network management environment to new IBM Tivoli technology. The company will also provide new collateral about migrating or trading up HP OpenView applications, including detailed roadmaps, migration pathways and whitepapers.
