Prospective match officials to step up training |
| FIFA.com |
The female match officials hoping to participate at the FIFA Women's World Cup China 2007 are following the example set by their male counterparts ahead of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ by preparing to embark on an intense period of training and preparation in the build-up to the flagship event of women's football, which takes place every four years. The objective of this initiative is to ensure that the match officials are in the best possible condition, which will in turn help to improve the quality of their performances.
The programme, which has been devised by the FIFA Referees Committee chaired by FIFA vice-president Angel Maria Villar Llona, will be launched on Spain's Canary Islands tomorrow, with an initial group of 15 referees and 29 assistant referees (see list below) convening for preparations lasting around ten days.
A second group of approximately 50 candidates will take part in training sessions at the prestigious Algarve Cup women's football tournament in Portugal from 6 to 14 March 2007.
These sessions will feature practical training, theory tests on the Laws of the Game, physical check-ups and an English aptitude test.
Once these two training camps have been completed, the FIFA Referees Committee will reduce the list of prospective match officials, who will then be invited to attend a final period of preparation and training in Zurich in spring 2007.
