Calderon stars on Spanish night

Theallineed.com
Jose Calderon delighted his fans watching back in Spain with a double-double as the Toronto Raptors beat the Memphis Grizzlies 103-91 on Wednesday night.

The Raptors labelled the visit of the Grizzlies 'Spanish night' in recognition of the number of players on view from the country which won the 2006 FIBA World Championship.

Calderon's team-mate Jorge Garbajosa was absent due to injury but the Grizzlies lined-up with Pau Gasol and Juan Carlos Navarro in their starting five.

The match, which was shown live in Spain, went the way of the home team who have now won three of four to pull back above .500 at 8-7.

Calderon played a key role with 13 points and 10 assists while Anthony Parker chipped in 19 points.

Gasol scored 13 points while Navarro had 15 for the Grizzlies.

Chinese star Yao Ming scored 31 points and pulled down 13 rebounds as the Houston Rockets pulled out a 100-94 win over the Phoenix Suns.

Yao sparked the Rockets' offense with a 12-of-19 shooting spree, easily getting post position on the Suns' smaller interior defenders.

Richard Hamilton scored 18 points as the Detroit Pistons beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 109-74.

Tayshaun Prince scored 16 points and Antonio McDyess had 14 and eight rebounds for Detroit, who blew open a five-point half-time lead after Cleveland's LeBron James did not return in the second half with an injury to his left index finger.

France international Tony Parker and the San Antonio Spurs used a strong second-half to beat the Washington Wizards 109-94.

Parker had 29 points, including 10 in each of the final two quarters. He also posted two season-highs with 11 assists and eight rebounds for San Antonio, who remain unbeaten at home.

Brendan Haywood scored 19 points to lead the Wizards, who have lost eight straight in San Antonio.

Carlos Boozer and Ronnie Brewer got the Utah Jazz back on the winning track, leading the Jazz to a 106-95 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.

Both played roles in a couple of key runs that allowed the Jazz to bounce back from Monday night's road loss to the New York Knicks.

Boozer scored 26 points and added seven rebounds and four assists. Brewer had 19 points and Deron Williams added 15 points and 15 assists.

Joe Johnson led six players in double figures with 21 points and Josh Childress scored six of his 12 points in the fourth quarter as the Atlanta Hawks cruised to a 96-80 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

Stephen Jackson nailed two huge three-pointers down the stretch to highlight a decisive game-ending run as the Golden State Warriors defeated the Sacramento Kings 103-96 at Arco Arena.

Danny Granger scored 23 points and Mike Dunleavy added 20 points and 11 rebounds as the Indiana Pacers survived a wild fourth quarter to earn a 95-89 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
