Business activity in the euro zone is showing the largest drop in March since comparable data began to be collected in July 1998, according to the early indicator published by IHS Markit on Tuesday.

According to the consulting firm, which obtains its data from surveys of purchasing managers in the service and manufacturing sectors, March saw widespread problems for business activity caused by increasingly stringent measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.
