Quartz Or Granite: Which Is Right For You

Home & FamilyQuartz Or Granite: Which Is Right For You

So you’ve decided to build a custom home, or to remodel your existing home. That’s great! But you might find yourself wondering what the ideal material for surfaces such as your kitchen countertops would be. Many people narrow their choices down to either quartz or granite. Granite used to be the definitive go-to stone, but this trend seems to be changing in recent days. There are a number of reasons for this, and we will be looking into each one.

Both quartz and granite have their advantages. However, not everyone knows just what those advantages are. It’s common for someone to simply pick the trending material. In most cases, there’s nothing wrong with that. Still, it’s important to educate yourself in advance. So let’s take a look at what quartz has to offer!

Cost: Cost is always a consideration that homeowners should consider when making any renovation or improvement. In many cases, quartz will be more cost-effective than granite. This may not always hold true during the initial purchasing (we’ll discuss that shortly). In the long run, however, quartz can save you big on maintenance and repair costs. Of course, it’s not uncommon to find beautiful quartz that has a lower cost than granite.

Maintenance: Maintenance is another huge consideration for any home improvement. Granite is a porous rock, this means that it should be sealed to protect it from spills and stains. Unfortunately, this is not a one-time process. The stone must be refinished on a regular basis to maintain that coat of protection. The end result is additional time and work invested into the material. On the other hand, quartz is not porous and does not need any kind of sealant. Once installed, it is ready to go!

Appearance: Appearance is a personal preference, of course. However, it cannot be argued that granite requires much more work to look great. The material is pulled right from the earth which means it will contain any imperfections that were created during its formation. Of course, these can be cut away, but that will add to its overall cost. Quartz is made from natural materials and manmade materials which means it can be manufactured to exact specifications. As such, you can easily find flawless quartz from any reliable manufacturer.

Do Your Own Research

Of course, you shouldn’t simply believe the first bit of information you find on a subject. It’s important for you to do further research into the topic at hand. This will ensure that you will be happy for years to come with your new renovations. For a few other advantages of quartz over granite, be sure to read through Leeza Surfaces post on the matter. While you’re at it, you can even find helpful posts to make other aspects of your home look fantastic! Don’t stop there either, it’s vital that you gather all the information available. It’s your home after all, don’t you want it to be the best it can be?
