How long do frozen foods last?

Home & FamilyHow long do frozen foods last?

How long has that chicken been in the freezer? Maybe you don’t even remember the last time you took a look at the frozen food in your fridge, but you have to do it much more often than you think. In fact, not all of them last the same amount of time. And that’s where the big question comes in, because when we know that not all products are preserved equally frozen, one thinks: how long can we have frozen food?

Freezing food can save us from throwing away leftover food or cooking on a day when we do not have time or desire to do so. This is why it is so important to control how long the products we have can be kept frozen.

The first thing is to clarify that we are not going to speak of the foods that already come frozen. Since in the packages it usually tells you the expiration date, which is usually around three months. We are talking about when we ourselves prepare some food or freeze it with the idea of taking it out later. Unfortunately, we have to bear in mind that this future date is not indefinite. After a certain date, the products we freeze are no longer good.

From leftover bread to game meat, seafood, fish or fruits and vegetables; practically everything can be frozen. There are exceptions, such as eggs or potatoes, which are almost better not to go into the freezer; but even if you want to, you can.

For example, uncooked (precooked) bread lasts barely a month while frozen strawberries can last between 8 and 10 months, as well as other fruits. With this table you will know what can be frozen and for how long:

But how do I know what frozen food has been in there for a longer or shorter period of time? The best advice in these cases is to label everything you put in the freezer, as this is the only way to have an answer. The label should contain what it is and when it has been in the freezer, so with that information you will know at a glance if what you plan to eat today is within this time window. Or, on the contrary, the product will not last much longer in the freezer.

Therefore, the products that we buy and decide to freeze can last quite a long time. And surely your freezer needs you to take a look at it with some urgency, especially if you usually save and save and it takes you a long time to eat what you have inside. What’s more, maybe it’s time to start organizing your freezer in a different way.
