After several teasers and announcements over the last months the Hummer EV has finally been fully unveiled. The return of the popular General Motors brand is electric and it does it in style. The Hummer EV comes with an incredible power, a range of 560 kilometers, fast charge, intelligent driving and many other innovations such as a diagonal shift. All this for a price that starts at $80,000.
The car was first announced in January of this year. Later they revealed some more details about its engine and even about the design of the convertible roof. But it has not been until now that we have been able to know what is its final appearance, the full features, price and availability.
Starting from the external aspect GMC wanted to maintain the traditional aesthetics of the Hummers in this new electric version. A robust, tall and heavy car. This doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have some details that make it different from the traditional ones. For example we have the whole front with the headlight matrix. This front bar even illuminate in an animated way when the driver approaches the car or when it is loading. There are other details such as self-designed wheels or trunk in the front.
Inside we find a particularly large space where the 13-inch touch screen information stands out, to this is added another of 12-inch touch controls. The seats and part of the decoration stand out for the use of black combined with white in a theme they have called ‘Lunar Horizon’. There are also bronze details and an “all-weather” floor. Finally, it features a Targa-style convertible roof in the front and T-Top style in the rear.
The Hummer EV has a total of three engines in its most powerful version with e4WD system. With this, General Motors promises up to 1,000 horsepower and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 3 seconds. But perhaps the most interesting thing beyond its power is the ‘CrabMode’ driving mode. In this mode the car can turn all its wheels diagonally to easily get out of parking lots or very narrow places where it is not possible to turn.
General Motors promises in the most powerful version of the Hummer EV a total of 350 miles of range. They have not indicated exactly how long it will take to charge or what the capacity of their battery is. However, they do indicate that it accepts a quick 800V DC charge to charge up to 350kW in 10 minutes, which gives the vehicle about 100 miles of extra range.
The vehicle has an extra protection on the bottom that allows you to cover the battery so that it does not end up damaged by driving on rough terrain. General Motors assures that the car can even drive through terrain with water up to 60 centimeters deep. The dynamic suspensions also help the car adapt to driving on flat, rocky or uneven terrain.
According to General Motors, they are going to launch a total of four versions of the vehicle that will arrive on different dates, with different characteristics and varied prices. They are the following:
- Hummer EV Edition 1: Three engines with a range of 560 kilometers, power of 1,000 HP and acceleration from 0 to 100 in 3 seconds. Available in the fall of 2021 for $112,595.
