With critics completely divided and the release of early reviews, Eternals becomes the lowest rated Marvel Cinematic Universe film, according to aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. As of the publication of this article, it holds a composite rating of just 60%.
This puts it below Thor: The Dark World, which holds a 66% on the same aggregator and has long been considered the worst film in the franchise. The numbers could change once the film is released and many more media outlets publish their review.
Starring Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Kit Harington and Kumail Nanjiani among others, Eternals tells the story of a race of immortal beings, called Eternals, who have secretly lived on Earth for thousands of years. They were created by very ancient entities called Celestials, they are tasked with re-uniting and fighting together against a new threat called the Deviants.
The film is directed by Chloé Zhao, who won the Oscar for Nomadland. The screenplay is by Patrick Burleigh, Ryan Firpo, Kaz Firpo and Chloé Zhao. Jack Kirby was the creator of the characters, who first appeared, in comics, in July 1978.
Eternals opens on November 5 in theaters around the world, although it will hit the big screen in some European countries on November 3, so beware of spoilers before you go to see it!
