Ghostbusters 4, the new installment of the famous film saga, will be released in December 2023
In light of the success of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Sony Pictures hasn’t thought twice about it and has greenlit the fifth installment of the franchise (if you count the Ghostbusters failed female reboot, that is).
The most recent installment of the supernatural comedy franchise saw Jason Reitman take the reins from his father, director/producer Ivan Reitman, making the film Ghostbusters: Afterlife by directing and co-writing the screenplay alongside Gil Kenan.
The plot of Ghostbusters: Afterlife focused on Egon Spengler’s young grandchildren, who discover in an old family farm the Ghostbusters artifacts, among them the mythical Ecto-1 vehicle.
Soon they will have to learn to use them together with their friends, as strange things begin to happen in an old mine that belonged to Ivo Shandor, architect, doctor and founder of the Secret Society for the Disciples of Gozer.
The film introduced new stars to the franchise, including Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Celeste O’Connor and Logan Kim. It also brought back Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts and Sigourney Weaver reprising their original roles, no doubt a nostalgia bath for fans.
At the moment, not many details are known about Ghostbusters 4, whose working title is “Firehouse”. However, Reitman said that this new installment will be the “next chapter in the story of the Spengler family”, which means that at least we will have Phoebe and Trevor, the young protagonists of the last film, back.
Meanwhile, Sony Pictures has confirmed the release date of the new Ghostbusters movie, moving from a summer release to a Christmas release, as the film will land in December next year.
In the absence of more details about its plot and cast, there is already a legion of fans waiting for the Ghostbusters 4 movie to be released in theaters on December 20, 2023.
