Amazon goes all-in on visual spectacle in new ‘Lord of the Rings – The Rings of Power’ trailer

After a trailer that suggested more than showed and a teaser a few days ago that pointed to an astronomical phenomenon that marked all of Middle Earth, Prime Video makes it clear that its series is not just any Tolkien-inspired telefilm. Its series poses great differences with the films of Peter Jackson, but bets on a personality of its own.

In this preview of the series that we will see on Amazon’s platform on September 2, it is clear that we visit a very different time from the approach of the trilogy of films. The Second Age of Middle-earth is portrayed as a brighter, more colorful and less violent world. Although that does not detract from the fact that we have access to some nightmarish sequences.

Among the new characters we can see in this preview are Isildur (Maxim Baldry), Elendil (Lloyd Owen), Pharazôn (Trystan Gravelle) and the Queen Regent Míriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson). Other Númenóreans featured in the series are Kemen (Leon Wadham) and Eärien (Ema Horvath). They all make up the new batch of heroes in this foray into Middle-earth that certainly seems to be more familiar and approachable than what we’ve seen so far.

Will this approach be enough to stand up to this fall’s other big fantasy prequel, HBO Max’s premiere of ‘Game of Thrones’? For now we have the promise that we will witness key events in the history of Middle-earth, such as the forging of the Rings, the rise of Sauron and the fall of Númenor.
