Already 14 dead by the bombing in the subway of St. Petersburg

Russia’s health minister Veronika Skvortsova said Tuesday that the death toll from the bombing of the St. Petersburg subway on Monday has risen to 14.

For its part, the Ministry of Emergencies has indicated that 49 people are still admitted to different hospitals in St. Petersburg for injuries sustained as a result of the terrorist attack.

St Petersburg Mayor Gueorgui Poltavchenko has detailed that of the total 12 injured are serious, 27 have a “medium gravity” and the remaining 10 have minor injuries.

The mayor also indicated that, although the majority of the wounded are inhabitants of St. Petersburg, there are 17 inhabitants of other regions of Russia, in addition to three citizens of Belarus, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Around 14:40 local time Monday a bomb exploded between the stations of Sennaya Ploshchad and the Technological Institute, in the subway of St. Petersburg, while a second explosive device was neutralized in the station of Ploshad Vosstania.

The St. Petersburg subway surveillance cameras have captured images of the person who allegedly placed the exploded device. Some media have spread an image that would show the suspect, a man with a beard, a black robe and a cap.

Kyrgyzstan’s State Security National Commission (GKNB) has reported that the terrorist could be Akbarzhon Jalilov, born in 1995 in Osh, the second largest city in the country.
