The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has decided to cease the current Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, and appoint in his place to Mike Pompeo, who until this Tuesday served as director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), as announced the president himself.
At the end of November, the newspaper ‘The New York Times’ reported that the US president planned to relieve Tillerson to place Pompeo at the head of the State Department but the White House denied it and Tillerson continued in office.
Tillerson on Monday advanced his return to Washington from Africa, where he was making a working tour of several countries. According to his spokesman, the return was due to the fact that he had urgent matters to address in the US capital.
Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!
