The coronavirus pandemic has already left 16,054 dead in the United States, where New York State has recorded another 799 deaths in the last day, bringing the total number of deaths in the region to 7,067, according to NBC News.
The governor of New York State, Andrew Cuomo, has indicated that of the more than 450,000 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the country, 159,937 people in the state have tested positive, 10,621 more than the previous day. This is an increase of 7%. The city of the same name, the main focus of infection, has 87,028 cases compared to 81,803 confirmed on Wednesday and 5,150 deaths, according to information from the local newspaper ‘The New York Times’.
Cuomo, who stressed that the number of hospitalizations has stabilized at 2% despite the growing number of deaths, said that 18,279 people are still hospitalized, 200 more than the previous day. If the trend continues, he said, the number of admissions will soon begin to fall, a sign that the virus has passed its peak.
However, he has issued a warning to the public: “Everyone thinks that once we get past this [the peak] we will be over. I wouldn’t sing victory so quickly. This virus has been ahead of us since day one”.
