U.S. President Donald Trump has again contradicted the leading scientist in the fight against the coronavirus in the United States, Anthony Fauci, and said he believes “absolutely” that American schools should reopen.

“I absolutely believe that schools should reopen,” Trump said. “I don’t think the country can go back if schools are closed … and I would say very strongly that they should be opened,” he insisted, noting that this decision must be made by the states individually, but that “they will not be open if the schools are not open.

As for Fauci, on his claims that schools should open cautiously and that in some places they should not even reopen in the fall, the U.S. president has said that “they are not an acceptable response”.
