Brazil surpassed the United Kingdom and became the second country with the highest number of deaths from Covid-19 on Thursday, with 41,828 deaths, with many regions of the country already in a state of flux despite the still strong spread of the disease.

The Ministry of Health registered 909 deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours and added 25,982 new cases, bringing the total balance of confirmed infections to 828,810.

Brazil, with some 210 million inhabitants, is the second largest country in the world in terms of the number of people infected and killed, just behind the United States.

Despite the fact that the curve has not yet reached its peak, which could happen in the coming weeks, the vast majority of Brazil’s 27 states continue to stand firm with their de-escalation plans, which have been criticized by the scientific community and applauded by President Jair Bolsonaro.
