An Italian woman from the town of Massa (north) has received six doses of the vaccine against the coronavirus by mistake, for which she has had to spend a day in hospital for observation, from which she has been discharged and is now well.
She is a 23-year-old woman who worked as a clinical psychology resident and, as health personnel, was vaccinated within the priority categories, local health authorities confirmed today in an online press conference.
Upon realizing the error, the nurses in charge of the vaccination explained it to the young woman, who went to the emergency department of Massa, in the Tuscany region. She remained there under observation for 24 hours and was discharged today.
At the moment the patient is well, “no side effects have been reported”, but the doctors will follow her evolution to assess the effects on her immune system after receiving an excess of antigen in her vaccination.
This overdose has been reported to the Italian Drug Agency (AIFA) and the regional health authorities have opened an investigation to clarify what happened.
