It was nice while it lasted, but Fleets, Twitter’s version of Stories, has not fulfilled the goal of encouraging users to make more posts on the platform. At the time, Twitter thought that the ephemeral nature of the posts, lasting 24 hours, would encourage users to post more, including those aspects they didn’t dare to post in conventional tweets.

But eight months after its widespread launch, Twitter is now saying goodbye to a feature that at the time was criticized by many users, understanding that it altered the essence of the platform. It sounds strange when even the platform was also testing the inclusion of advertising Fleets, jumping the news of its disappearance next August 3 by surprise.

As they have been able to observe on Twitter, the fleets have been used basically by those who already publish regularly on the platform with the aim of amplifying their message.

In Twitter, despite seeing that the Fleets have not come to work, they will continue to look for possible ways to allow greater user participation.

The date of the demise has been set for August 3, at which point Fleets will no longer be displayed, although users will continue to see avatars of the audio rooms that are active at any given time.

Those who wish to continue with ephemeral publications will have to bet on platforms such as Instagram or Snapchat, where this publication format originated until Instagram included it in its service and made it popular.
