A group of Alitalia stewardesses have stripped naked in the streets of Rome to protest the airline’s closure and layoffs. They are taking off their clothes all at once in a square in the Italian capital.
About fifty flight attendants lined up in rows at the top of the Capitoline Hill. Then, in synchronized fashion, they began to take off their clothes, starting with their jackets, skirts and finally their shoes. After this, they remained in silence, barefoot and dressed only in underwear, for several minutes.
After the act of protest, they carefully picked up their clothes and shouted, “We are Alitalia!”.
The end of Alitalia
The Italian airline, a symbol all over the world, is coming to an end after 75 years and several attempts to keep it afloat. It suspended the sale of tickets for travel on October 15 and has cancelled scheduled flights since then. In parallel to this situation, the new airline, Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA), has already started selling its first tickets to begin operations.
The European Commission gave the green light to the 1.35 billion euro injection that Italy will make in ITA for its creation, because it considers that this support complies with market rules and does not involve State aid. The Italian National Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) issued on August 18, 2021 the Air Operator’s Certificate (COA) and the Air Transport Operating License to Italy Transport Air (ITA), successor of Alitalia.
