A woman has died and a man has been injured Thursday by a shot of the actor Alec Baldwin with a prop gun on the set of a film in the U.S. state of New Mexico.
State authorities have confirmed that the actor and producer, 68, was the one who fired the gun on the set of the western film ‘Rust’, in an incident that occurred around 13.50 hours (local time) in Bonanza Creek Ranch, reports the US network CNN.
A spokeswoman for Baldwin said that the shooting occurred by accident when the prop gun malfunctioned.
After being shot, emergency services transported the woman to the University of New Mexico Hospital, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as 42-year-old cinematographer Halyn Hutchins.
Director Joel Souza, 48, was injured in the accident and was taken to Saint Vincent Regional Medical Center.
Authorities have indicated that the investigation is ongoing and that no charges have been filed. Meanwhile, production of the film, directed by Souza and which featured Baldwin as producer and actor, has been halted.
