A shocking video recorded by a drone shows the effects of the war on the city of Mariupol, with which the invading army has been particularly furious. Last March 2nd, the Russian army which left Crimea and already had control over Melitopol and Berdiansk, managed to completely surround the city of Mariupol.

The images of the state of the city thirteen days later are completely devastating and show the cruelty of an army that has no qualms about attacking civilians.

The drone’s wide sweep over Mariupol shows us a homogeneous landscape of smoke and rubble. From the moment the Kremlin’s army surrounded the city, the constant bombardment of civilian infrastructures and key buildings for the electricity supply began.

The Ukrainian resistance in Mariupol (headquarters of the Ukrainian ultra-nationalist paramilitary group, Azov Battalion) is the only obstacle separating the Russian army in Crimea and the Donbas, and taking the city would allow Putin to connect the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don with the separatist peninsula through the northern Sea of Azov, as well as to control all Ukrainian ports except Odessa.
