According to British media, the Kremlin leader will soon undergo surgery and hand over power to his spy chief, Nikolai Patrushev

Russian President Vladimir Putin has made dozens of trips in the company of a cancer specialist, Evgeny Selivanov, according to a report by the Russian investigative news outlet Proekt, which also claims that the president bathes with a deer antler formula to improve his health.

The editors of the independent ‘Proekt’ point to Putin’s increasingly frequent trips to the resort town of Sochi, always in the company of doctors from the Moscow Central Clinical Hospital.

Among the Russian president’s most regular medical assistants is oncologist and surgeon Evgeny Selivanov, who has visited Putin 35 times and spent a total of 166 days in his company between 2016 and 2020.

Nor has he been separated from two otolaryngologists, ear, nose and throat specialists, who, according to Proekt, are usually the first to diagnose thyroid diseases and cancer.

According to the English newspaper ‘The Sun’, Putin will soon undergo an operation against the cancer he is suffering from. During the period of leave following the operation, the Kremlin leader would hand over power to his spy chief, Nikolai Patrushev, considered a hardliner in the regime, the British tabloid claims. According to different sources quoted Patrushev, 70, is seen as a key architect of Ukraine’s war strategy and the man who convinced Putin of the concept of ‘denazification’ of Ukraine.

“On October 7 this year, President Putin will celebrate his 70th birthday. Joseph Stalin had already experienced a second stroke by this age, Leonid Brezhnev had so lost his ability to work that real power passed to his entourage, Yuri Andropov did not live to this date at all, and Boris Yeltsin resigned as a profoundly ill man,” begins the Proekt report, which wryly emphasizes that Putin’s health, in the words of his press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, is “excellent.”

The journalists nonetheless recount Putin’s “most famous disappearances” from 2012 until September 2021 when he went into seclusion for fear of the coronavirus.

“As he ages, concerns about health and longevity so absorb the president that he even shows interest in alternative medicine, although many in his family are doctors,” Proekt’s journalists continue.
