Turkey announces signing of agreement to unblock Ukrainian grain exports

The fear of a global famine following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine seems to be close to an end. Turkey confirmed on Thursday that an agreement has been reached to unblock the export of Ukrainian grain, which has been severely damaged since Russia started the war on February 24. Fortunately, the agreement, which comes into force this Friday, will prevent what had been a catastrophe foretold.

Ukraine has been denouncing for weeks that Russia is stealing its crops and selling them on the black market to third countries, appropriating raw materials to enrich itself by selling them as if they were its own, which has put Europe in check, given that Ukraine is one of the largest exporters of cereals, grains and various agricultural products in the world. The war has posed a supply problem worldwide.

It is hoped that, with the agreement secured by Turkey, the situation will become more sustainable and some countries that are heavily dependent on exports from third countries will not be in such dire straits. Turkey’s position in the conflict will be of great importance, since it has in its hands the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO, countries territorially close to Russia that choose to join the Alliance to be safe from a hypothetical attack.

Nearly five months of war in Ukraine

Ukraine celebrates this Sunday July 24 five months since Vladimir Putin ordered to attack the neighboring country, in what is the bloodiest conflict in Europe since the Yugoslav wars, which lasted a decade and did not end until November 2001. This same Thursday, the CIA has assured that rumors pointing to a possible illness of the Russian president are false, and that, according to the information in their possession, Putin is very healthy.

In the meantime, the leader of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, one of Vladimir Putin’s most faithful allies, assures that he is at his disposal for orders to “smash” the West. The Chechen guerrillas, who fight under Kadyrov’s orders, are known to be absolutely ruthless and very bloodthirsty towards the enemy. Kadyrov claimed to be in Ukraine at the beginning of the war, and it is not known whether he is there or has returned to Chechnya.
