Today marks six months since the launch of PS5 in much of the world and Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios. has revealed that there are currently more than 25 games in development for PS5.
Hulst, who also co-founded Guerrilla Games, spoke in an article in Wired about how the company is working on new games coming to PS5 and said that there are more than 25 games in development for the next-gen console. About half of those games are new IPs, they detail in the article, though without specifying names, estimated release dates or which studios are in charge of their production.
That said, the head of PlayStation Studios highlights the diversity of this catalog in development: “There’s an incredible amount of variety originating from different regions,” notes Hulst, who also talks about how different these future PS5 games will be from each other: “Big, small, different genres…”.
The company recently emphasized its “aggressive” bet on both first-party titles and collaborations for PS5 exclusives during the presentation of the financial data for its last fiscal year, a period in which 17% of the games sold, a percentage equivalent to 58.4 million dollars, were titles developed by the company itself. For the new fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2022, even more revenue is expected than in the previous one.
Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, also assured at the time that PS5 will have “more exclusives” than any previous-generation console thanks to having “quietly” invested in them.
