We now know when the new Call of Duty is coming to PC and consoles, along with a lot of information about Sledgehammer’s return to the helm of the franchise. COD Vanguard is coming to PlayStation, Xbox and PC on 5 November… but we’ll be able to try it out much sooner.

After seeing an impressive trailer, rumours of a COD Vanguard playtest have now been confirmed. Activision has announced it, stating that it’s a PlayStation-exclusive alpha test. It will, of course, only be the first test in an extensive roadmap.

The Call of Duty Vanguard alpha test will be available on PS5 and PS4 from 27 August at 10:00 PST, and will be available to download until 29 August. It will be free and will allow us to try out a multiplayer game mode: Champion Hill.
All players who have COD Warzone, COD Black Ops Cold War or COD Modern Warfare on PS5 or PS4 will be able to download it from the menu of those games.

Sledgehammer introduces five areas in Champion Hill, a mode that mixes classic Shootout and Battle Royale. These four variants include a stage destruction engine, four main characters and up to 10 attachments for a range of weapons.

Champion Hill is a tournament-style, multi-map mode where strategy is vital to survive the battles. We will fight against all enemies in Duos or Trios, and our goal is to reduce the opposing team’s kill counter to 0 in order to claim victory.

Champion Hill also takes place on a large map divided into five sections. Specifically, there is a central Buy Station area and four arenas for combat rounds: the airstrip, the train yard, the marketplace and the courtyard. Once you are eliminated, you will be able to watch the tournament end from the Buy Station Area’ spectator platform.

Pre-loading of the COD Vanguard alpha begins today, Monday 23 August. This trial will be available on the PS Store (PS5 and PS4) in different regions, and can be played from 27 August.

These games will make you sweat and push your PS4 or PS5 to the max – they’ll be hard to beat, but if you do, you can call yourself a hardcore gamer.

On a side note, all COD Vanguard alpha participants will receive an emblem and business card, both of which can be used in Sledgehammer’s upcoming game or COD Warzone.
Call of Duty Vanguard is coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox X|S Series, Xbox One and PC on 5 November.
