For a few years now, Apple has been selling in its iPhone catalog a special edition intended to be the ‘cheap’ iPhone, the iPhone SE. A trimmed down version of its devices that has almost all of its advantages, but with some shortcomings. At its latest event, Peek Performance, Apple presented the third generation of its iPhone SE, which can be reserved this Friday.

A device that, as rumors said, has not changed practically nothing in design, but it has changed inside. The main selling point of the iPhone SE 2022 is that it is the first iPhone SE with 5G connectivity, thanks to the latest mobile processor developed by Apple, the A15 Bionic.

This is the same processor used in the latest generation iPhone 13, devices that cost several times more than this iPhone SE, which is basically a super iPhone 8. It has a 4.7-inch HD Retina display and recovers the Touch ID, the front fingerprint sensor of the old iPhones. Both its battery and its rear camera have been improved, with greater energy efficiency and above all a new camera system with a 12-megapixel wide-angle sensor.

In terms of design, it uses the same glass on both the front and back of the iPhone 13 and the A15 Bionic processor not only gives it 5G connectivity, but photographic functions such as Smart HDR, Deep Fusion or a dedicated portrait mode. It starts with iOS 15, getting its best updates such as spatial audio and portrait mode in FaceTime, SharePlay to watch content with other people and the Concentration modes of the ‘Do Not Disturb’ function.

Power is undoubtedly the great asset of this new iPhone SE. According to Apple, it is up to 1.8 times more powerful than the iPhone 8 and far outperforms previous models. In addition, it integrates the neural processing unit, the 16-core Neural Engine to perform up to 15.8 trillion operations per second. This also allows the use of new features such as Live Text in iOS 15. The iPhone SE also supports wireless charging and fast charging.

iPhone SE will be available in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB models in midnight, starlight, and (PRODUCT)RED starting at $429 (US) and it will be available to pre-order at 5 a.m. PST on Friday, March 11, with delivery beginning Friday, March 18.
