Apple launches the self-service repair program in the United States and will be open to Europe in a few months

Apple has just announced the launch of the self-service repair program in the United States. The company has also confirmed that this program will expand to other countries, starting with Europe, in a few months. A program designed so that we ourselves, if we have the necessary skills, we can repair our devices.

Initially the program covers the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 as well as the third generation iPhone SE. As Apple has already announced, it will be adding more devices, as the ability to use this program to repair Macs with Apple Silicon will be added in the coming months.

“Having greater access to the same parts Apple uses will give our customers more options to repair their devices when needed,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer. “In the last three years, Apple has nearly doubled the number of locations where you can access the same parts, tools and training Apple uses, and now we’ll give more options to those who want to do their own repairs.”

To get started with a self-service repair we should start by reviewing the repair manual. If we are comfortable with the necessary steps, we can order all the necessary parts, as well as the tools to perform the task. The parts we purchase are exactly the same – and at the same price – as those available from Apple’s network of authorized service providers.

The tools are also the same as those used by Apple in its repair network. Custom tools that we can buy, or we can rent for $49. A complete pack of tools that we can use for a week and whose shipping and return is free.

This is a really interesting program. For some repairs we will even receive a refund when returning the parts for proper recycling. An initiative that gives us more options to repair, according to our needs, the different devices.
