With the arrival of Christmas, many people are planning to take a trip, if the omicron variant allows it. To help choose the most suitable destinations, InterNations has compiled a list of the cities that have received the best ratings from expats in 2021.
The magazine evaluates several parameters including: friendliness, places of interest, culture, gastronomy and general value of the destination.
The friendliest cities
Among the friendliest destinations is Gothenburg (Sweden). Located in the province of Västra Götaland on the west coast of the country, at the mouth of the river Göta älv. The great Swedish jewel becomes an “incredible place for young people”.
The list also highlights Copenhagen (Denmark) as one of the “most socially tolerant cities in the world”.
In the United States are Chicago, Boston and New York, three destinations that welcome tourists with more love.
And the happiest regions?
Every year, the United Nations (UN) conducts a study, Happiness World Report, on the happiest territories in the world. A ranking that this year leads Finland, becoming the region with the greatest stability in people’s quality of life.
The most unpleasant cities
At the other extreme are those that are most unpleasant for visitors. Among them is Vienna, which ranks first. According to a recent study published by InterNations, which analyzed the experiences of 12,420 foreigners in 57 cities around the world, Austria’s capital is the least friendly city in its own right. However, it also has its positive side – it happens to be one of the territories with the best quality of life.
Vienna is not alone. Johannesburg (South Africa) and Milan (Italy) are also disliked by foreign visitors.
